CHARLESTON, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's soccer fell at home to Belmont Tuesday afternoon. The Bruins secured the 2-1 win over the Panthers with a goal scored in overtime.
Both teams were held scoreless during the first half of play, but each team managed to fire off five shots.
Mike Novotny tallied three first half saves while Nicolo Dini stopped the ball once for the Bruins.
Tensions were high to start the second half of the match. Novotny received a red card just six minutes in the second half for a foul in the box. Belmont's Itzik Efraim scored following the ejection on a penalty kick. EIU's
Erik Isaksson received a red card and was ejected just two minutes following Novotny's exit.
The Panthers managed to tie the game being two men down.

Federico Verlichi up in the box. Verlichi passed by the defense and found the back of the net in the 66th minute ultimately forcing overtime play. Belmont's two-man advantage paid off just five minutes into the overtime period. Nick Kramer took a pass from Matt Vuylsteke and scored from the top left of the box. The Bruins walked away with a 2-1 win of the Panthers.
EIU took six shots total with two on goal. Verlichi and
Fabio Collado each with one. Belmont took 10 shots total with five on goal. Efraim, Kramer, and Adam Voloder each took one while Matteo Bennati had two for the Bruins.
The Panthers will host IUPUI for their final home match this season. The teams will take the field at 1 p.m. on Wednesday Oct. 25.
