GREEN BAY, Wis. – Eastern Illinois men's soccer team opened regular season play in Green Bay on Saturday night. The Panthers played to a 1-1 draw against the Phoenix.
Both teams held their own defensively at the start of the match, but Green Bay found the net late in the first half. Ian smith scored unassisted off a rebound into the bottom right of the net at the 39 minute mark.
Defense on both ends of the field remained strong for the remainder of the match until the 83rd minute. EIU's
Alessandro Corti scored off a flick pass from
Zach Medawattage tying the game 1-1. The Panthers had eight shots total with three of them on goal.
Green Bay finished the match with 14 total shots, but only four of them on goal.
Mike Novotny made three saves for the Panthers allowing Green Bay to only find the back of the net once.
The Panthers take on Milwaukee Sunday Aug. 27 at 3 pm before returning for their home opener on Sept. 1 against Western Michigan.
