NOTES TO KNOW
• Eastern Illinois opens the 2017 season after going 6-5 last season with a 24-0 season ending victory at Eastern Kentucky. It marked the first time since the 1977 season that EIU finished a season with a shutout victory. EIU beat Evansville, 17-0, to end the 1977 campaign.
• Eastern Illinois head coach
Kim Dameron will be entering his fourth season as the Panthers head coach. Dameron is 18-17 overall including a 16-8 record in Ohio Valley Conference games. He lead the Panthers to an FCS playoff appearance in 2015.
• Eastern Illinois will be opening a season on a Thursday night for the 18th time in school history. EIU is 10-7 all-time in those games with a 9-4 record against FCS opponents.
• Eastern Illinois and Indiana State will be opening the season against each other for the 26th time when the schools meet on Thursday night. ISU holds a 13-11-1 lead in those season openers. EIU is 3-1 in season openers in Division I meetings between the schools.
• Senior tight end
Addison Bounds was named to the preseason All-Ohio Valley Conference team. Bounds is the Panthers top returning receiver from last year with 20 catches for 188 yards and three touchdowns.
• Eastern Illinois will be facing a new head coach to open the season for the third consecutive season when EIU plays at Indiana State with new coach Curt Mallory. EIU has opened the last two seasons facing Western Illinois with a new coach in 2015 & 2016.

THE SERIES
• Eastern Illinois and Indiana State will be meeting for the 84th time with the Panthers holding a 42-37-4 all-time series lead. The two schools last played in 2009 with EIU picking up a 31-0 victory in Terre Haute. EIU has won five straight in the series and 12 of the last 14 match-ups. The two schools first met in 1902 with EIU winning 21-0. The series between the two schools located just 50 miles apart includes one post-season contest won by ISU in the 1983 FCS playoffs.
