Men's Soccer Scores Late Goal To Beat Saint Francis

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's soccer played with a man advantage for just over 40 minutes before the Panthers could capitalize during a 1-0 win over Saint Francis on Sunday afternoon at Lakeside Field.  EIU remained undefeated on the season moving to 2-0-4.  Saint Francis fell to 2-2-1.
 
EIU was able to gain a man advantage when Josh Holberry was handed a red card in the 39th minute.  EIU was able to end the first half with a 4-2 advantage in shots.
 
In the second half EIU continued to press and had two shots hit the post and another bounce off the cross bar.  Shady Omar had his shot hit the post in the 51st minute.  Jonathan Huerta then had one shot hit off the post in the 69th minute and another hit the cross bar in the 73rd minute.
 
An opportunity finally paid off for Huerta and the Panthers offense as he served a corner kick into the goal box in the 82nd minute that senior Zach Medawattage finished into the back of the goal for the game's lone tally.
 
EIU would finish the match with a 10-4 shots advantage.  Mike Novotny posted a shutout making two saves.
 
EIU returns to action Wednesday with a road match at Marshall.
