CHICAGO- Eastern Illinois men's soccer secured their first win of the 2017 season on the road Sunday night. The Panthers won 1-0 against UIC improving to a 1-0-3 record.

EIU's lone goal came early in the first half from Federico Verlichi. He found the back of the net off a low shot from inside the box in the 18th minute. Yann Nsoga was credited the assist on the play. Verlichi had two shots for the Panthers while Cole Harkrader, Christian Sosnowski, and Brendan McDonough each had one for EIU.

Goalkeeper Mike Novotny had another stellar game in the net for the Panthers. UIC had 7 shots on goal all of which Novotny saved securing EIU's 1-0 win over the Flames.

The Panthers return home this week for two home matches. EIU will first play Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. on Tuesday Sept. 5 followed by Saint Francis Sunday afternoon.
