Eastern Illinois women's basketball opens a four game home stand this Friday Dec. 21 vs. Indiana State. The Panthers are 1-4 coming off their five game road trip and are looking to pick up a couple wins before heading into conference season. Indiana State is 1-3 in their last four games with their only win coming against UIC. The Sycamores fell 72-49 at Butler earlier this week.
PANTHERS FROM THE FIELD
EIU has found success from the field so far into the season. The Panthers currently rank third in field goal and three-point percentage in the OVC. They are shooting 41.7 percent from the field led by
Karle Pace who is shooting 49.1 percent, which ranks tenth individually. EIU is shooting 32.1 percent from the arc. Pace is also ranked 10th individually shooting 37.8 percent.
Carmen Tellez ranks second shooting 50 percent from three-point range.
CRASHING THE BOARDS
The Panthers are one of eight teams in the OVC with a positive rebounding margin (+1.2).
Jennifer Nehls leads EIU grabbing 6.6 boards per game and is 11th in the OVC. Nehls grabbed a team-high nine rebounds at NIU earlier this week.
Grace McRae also ranks in the rebounding top-20 for the conference. She tallied eight rebounds at NIU earlier this week and averages 5.9 rebounds per game for the Panthers.
UP NEXT
EIU will be back after the holiday on Sunday Dec. 30. The Panthers will play the Red Devils of Eureka College in Lantz Arena at 4:15 pm. On January 3, EIU will open the conference season at home with the first women's and men's double-header of the season vs. UT Martin. The women will play at 5:15 pm.
