Baseball Falls in Series Finale Against JSU

EIU baseball fell in their series finale against Jacksonville State, 7-0.

Charleston, Ill. – Eastern Illinois came up short in the series rubber match against Jacksonville State Sunday afternoon. Jacksonville States took the series finale defeating the Panthers 7-0.

Eastern Illinois dropped to 8-10 (1-2 OVC), while Jacksonville State advanced to 12-6 (3-3 OVC).

Jacksonville State got on the board in the first inning when Trent Simpson grounded out to first scoring Clayton Daniel for the Gamecocks first run of the game.

Tyler Jones suffered his first loss of the season tossing four innings, with five strikeouts, four hits, two wild pitches, two runs, and an earned run. Jones dropped to 2-1 on the season after his outing.

The Gamecocks were able to get to add to their lead against reliever Blake Malatestinic scoring three runs against the freshman.

Derrick Adams got the start on the hill for the Gamecocks in game two of the series. Adams tossed 7.2 innings, with eight strikeouts and four hits. With the win Adams improved to 1-1 on the season.

Joe Duncan was the lone Panther to have a multi-hit game. Duncan went 2-for-4 on the day with two singles. Josh Turnock and Ryan Knenschield rounded out the hit column for EIU hitting a single each on the afternoon.

The Panthers return to action on Tuesday (Mar. 20) where they will play host to Indiana State at 3 pm.
