Baseball Falls To EKU In Series Opener

Eastern Kentucky defeated EIU baseball by a score of 7-1 on Friday

Richmond, Ky.- Eastern Kentucky took control of the first game early against Eastern Illinois. EKU's offense took control of the game combining for 12 hits to defeat the Panthers, 7-1.

With the loss Eastern Illinois drops to 13-23 (4-12 OVC), while Eastern Kentucky advances to 19-20 (10-6 OVC).

Tyler Jones earned the start for the Panthers in the first game of the series against EKU. Jones tossed 6.2 innings, allowing nine hits, six runs, two walks, and struck out six batters. Jones suffered the loss on the mound for Eastern Illinois dropping to 4-3 on the season.

Logan Teague pitched a complete game for Eastern Kentucky, allowing five hits, one run, three walks, and striking out five batters. Teague advanced to 4-4 on the season with the win.

Eastern Kentucky got on the board in the bottom of the first inning. Cornell Nixon drew a walk to kick of the inning. Will Johnson would follow up reaching on a fielders choice. EKU would score the first run of the game when

Ryland Kerr doubled down the left field line, scoring Nixon. After Alex Holderbach struck out swinging, EKU would earn their second run of the inning when Nick Howie would hit a sacrifice fly to right field.

EKU extended their lead in the bottom of the second inning on a Chris Botsoe solo home run.

The Panthers were able to answer back in the top of the third inning cutting the EKU lead to two runs. Tyler Tesmond led off the inning drawing a walk. Josh Turnock would move Tesmond into scoring position grounding to second base. Joseph Duncan was able to get the Panthers on the board with a two out double to left center.

Eastern Kentucky's offense was able to extend their lead scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Logan Teague was able to hold the Panther offense the entire game claiming a complete game for Eastern Kentucky, allowing five hits, one run, three walks, and striking out five batters. Teague advanced to 4-4 on the season with the win.

Dougie Parks finished 2-for-4 on the night. Duncan went 1-for-4 with a double, and an RBI.
