Eastern Illinois football opens the 2018 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at SEC member Arkansas. The game will be a special homecoming for current EIU head coach
Kim Dameron who played at Arkansas in the early 1980's under head coach Lou Holtz.
The Panthers head coach also recently received another honor from his home state as he will be inducted into the Rogers High School Athletic Hall of Fame as part of the class of 2018. The induction ceremony will take place on Friday, Sept. 21, the day before EIU is at home to host Tennessee State.
Dameron was a stand-out athlete in football, basketball and track at Rogers HS finishing his athletic career in 1979. He would play football at Arkansas and was part of four bowl teams for the Razorbacks. After graduation, Dameron entered the coaching profession as a graduate assistant at Arkansas.
He is currently in his fifth season as the head coach at EIU with the Panthers going 6-5 last season, their third straight winning season. The season opener will be carried on the SEC Network with a 3 p.m. kickoff in Fayetteville.
