NOTES TO KNOW
• Eastern Illinois fell to 0-9 on the season and 0-5 in the Ohio Valley Conference as the Panthers lost on Oct. 26 to Eastern Kentucky for EIU's homecoming game. EIU scored late in the fourth quarter to lose 33-6. Tennessee State enters at 2-7 overall, 1-4 in the OVC which includes an upset win over then nationally ranked Austin Peay.
• Eastern Illinois heads to Music City to face Tennessee State coming off the bye week for the Panthers. Since the 2012 season, EIU is 5-2 coming off a bye week including a 52-21 win over Austin Peay last season. The previous year, EIU had its bye week in the second to last week of the season returning to lose the season finale 28-13 at Austin Peay.
•
Dytarious Johnson added to his season total for tackles for loss against Eastern Kentucky as he now has 13 tackles for loss for the season. Johnson enters the week leading the OVC in tackles for loss and ranked 25th in the FCS. This year Johnson has moved into the EIU career top ten for tackles for loss as he ranks seventh all-time with 36 TFL.
• Eastern Illinois will be playing a game at Tennessee State's Hale Stadium for the only the second time in program history. The last time EIU played at the Tigers on-campus venue was Dec. 4, 1982 when the two teams met in the FCS playoff quarterfinals. TSU would win the game 20-19 but later forfeit the win due to an ineligible player.
THE SERIES
• Eastern Illinois and Tennessee State will be meeting for the 23rd time on Saturday and for only the second time at the Tigers on-campus venue, Hale Stadium. EIU holds a 14-8 all-time series lead but the Tigers snapped a six game win streak by the Panthers last season with a 41-40 win in Charleston. The last four games in the series have been evenly matched with all four decided by a field goal or less including two of the contests decided in overtime. TSU's last win over EIU in Nashville was Nov. 8, 2008 a 45-24 win.
