Softball Wraps Up Kentucky Trip at EKU

Davis hit a solo homer in game one with the Colonels

RICHMOND, Ky. - Eastern Illinois softball wraps up their OVC Kentucky trip with a doubleheader at Eastern Kentucky Sunday afternoon. EKU took a 2-1 win in game one over EIU and an 8-2 win in game two. Mia Davis and Megan Burton each hit solo homers for the Panthers over the two games.

EIU falls to 12-35 overall and 3-13 in the OVC. EKU improves to 25-15 overall and 12-4 in the OVC.

The Panthers continue their road trip on Wednesday with a 3 pm game at Butler. 

Game 1 
McKenna Coffman pitched a solid game on the mound for the Panthers. She only gave up three hits and retired three batters. Coffman is now 3-10 on the year.

Megan Burton opened the game with a single to EKU's third baseman, while Mia Davis hit a solo homer to right field in the top of the seventh scoring the Panthers only run. Zoe Mihalicz recorded two of the Colonels three hits and tallied both RBI for EKU. EKU scored one run in the second and one in the fourth to take a 2-1 win.

Game 2
The Panthers recorded seven hits in game two led by Burton tallied two to lead the team. The Colonels connected 13 times at the plate leading to a 8-2 win sweeping the doubleheader.

EKU jumped out to a 5-0 lead after scoring two in the fourth and three in the fifth. Burton hit a solo homer down the left field line in the sixth before EKU added another three runs going up 8-1. Burton's second hit of the game was a single through the left side of the field leading to a run scored by Hannah Cravens. The Colonels held on to the lead and won 8-2.

Sydney Cammon started in the circle for EIU and pitched 4.1 innings. She falls to 2-2 overall. Jenna Robbins and Cravens split the remainder of the game on the mound.
