The Eastern Illinois baseball team competed in a doubleheader against Morehead State Thursday afternoon. Morehead State was able to take both games of the doubleheader over the Panthers.
Game One: Morehead 11, EIU 8
The Panthers were able to get on the board first in the top of the second inning.
Keith Kerrigan was able to drive the first run of the game in with he Panthers hea single up the middle.
Connor Pauly was able to even the score for Morehead State when he drove in Zach Boyd in the bottom of the third inning.
Morehead State was able to grab the lead in the bottom of the fifth inning adding three runs.
The Panthers were able to comeback in the top of the seventh inning.
Jimmy Govern got the scoring started in the top of the seventh with a solo homerun to left field.
Christian Pena would bring in the second run of the inning with a single to center field.
Ryan Knernschield drove in the tying run with a single to left field.
Morehead State would regain the lead in the bottom of the eighth when they scored seven runs.
Govern would kickoff a ninth inning rally with his second solo homerun of the game. Knernschield would drive in his second run of the game with a ground of to third to drive in
Hunter Morris.
Trey Sweeney kept the rally alive with a one run single to right field.
Josh Cooper suffered the loss on the mound for the Panthers dropping to 0-4 on the season. Cooper tossed 2.0 innings with one strikeout.
Game Two: Morehead 10, EIU 8
The Panthers kicked off the first inning aggressively jumping out to a three run lead. Morris got the scoring started with a two run homer to center field. Knernschield followed up later in the inning with a sacrifice fly to left field to score the third run of the inning.
Morehead State added three runs through the first two innings to tie the game at three runs.
The Panthers would have a big inning in the top of the fifth scoring three runs to regain the lead. Morris drove in his third and fourth RBIs of the game with a double down the right field line. Pena would keep the scoring alive with a one run single to center.
Morehead State would answer back with four runs in the fifth inning.
Tyler Tesmond would tie the game up in the top of the eighth inning for the Panthers when he grounded out to first to drive in Sweeney.
Jake Hammon would hit a game winning two run homer to right center for Morehead State in the bottom of the eighth inning.
