CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - Eastern Illinois softball closed the 2019 road season at Southeast Missouri Saturday afternoon. The Redhawks took an 11-3 win in five inning in game one and an 8-5 win in game two. EIU is now 13-37 overall and 3-15 in the OVC. SEMO improves to 35-12 overall and 12-4 in the OVC.

The Panthers return home next week for five games to finish the regular season. First on the schedule is a mid-week non-conference game with IUPUI on Tuesday for a 4 pm match-up. EIU will host Belmont and Tennessee State on Saturday and Sunday to close conference play.

Game 1
The Panthers tallied seven hits in the first game of today's action led by Morgan LaMore and Haley Mitchell who each finished with two. The Redhawks recorded ten hits leading to an 11-3 win.

A sacrafice bunt from Kendyl McKeough in the top of the first inning got the Panthers on the board first with a run scored from Megan Burton. The Redhawks responded with a two-run homer in their second at-bat of the inning followed by a solo homer a few batters later to go up 3-1

SEMO added another five runs in the second inning taking an 8-1 lead. The Panthers narrowed their lead with back-to-back one run singles in the third inning from Tayler Wullenweber and LaMore. Sarah Messex would hit a walk-off three-run homer in the bottom of the fifth to run-rule EIU 11-3.

Jade Montgomery falls to 4-18 on the mound after pitching the first 1.1 innings. Hannah Cravens came in for relief to finish the remainder of the game.

Game 2
Burton finished with two of the Panthers six hits in game two of today's doubleheader, while four other players tallied one each. The Redhawks scored three runs in the sixth inning to steal an 8-3 win over EIU to sweep this season's match-up.

Breya Cooper hit a three-run homer in the fourth inning to tie the game 3-3 after a productive start for SEMO. Mady Poulter and Burton both scored in the fifth inning to tied the game again at 5-5, but a three-run triple from Claudia Gallo led the Redhawks to an 8-3 win.

McKenna Coffman falls to 4-11 on the mound. She retired three batters in six innings of work.
