Panthers Fall In Series Opener Against Austin Peay

EIU baseball falls 13-9 against Austin Peay

The Eastern Illinois baseball team opened up their last conference series at Coaches stadium for the 2019 season Friday afternoon.  The Governors were able to take the first game of the series 13-9.
 
The Governors came out aggressive in the first inning jumping out to a quick six run lead.
 
Grant Emme was able to get the Panthers on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer to left center. Ryan Knernschield would hit the Panthers second homerun of the inning with a solo homerun to left field.
 
Emme would drive his second homerun of the afternoon in the bottom of the third inning.  Jimmy Govern would add to the slugfest with a homerun to left field. The Panthers would score two runs in the bottom of the third inning to cut the lead down to 6-5.
 
Austin Peay would drive in four runs in the fourth and fifth innings to extend their lead to 10-5. The Governors were able to capitalize on three EIU errors in the top of the fifth inning.
 
Christian Pena would get the Panthers on the board in the bottom of the sixth inning with a one-run double to right center. Hunter Morris would draw a walk with the bases loaded to give the Panthers their seventh run of the game.
 
Garret Spain would belt a solo homerun in the top of the eighth inning. The Governors would go on to score three runs in the top of the eighth to lead 13-7.
 
Morris would drive his tenth homerun of the season to right center for a two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning.
