The Eastern Illinois baseball team prepares to play host to Butler for a mid-week battle on Tuesday. The mid-week matchup will mark the final time that Eastern Illinois will play at Coaches Stadium during the 2019 season.
The Panthers have earned the seventh seed in the OVC tournament ahead of the mid-week battle. The Panthers had the opportunity to clinch the post-season berth this weekend.
Christian Pena heads into the mid-week matchup leading the Panthers offense. Pena currently has a .379 average with 81 total bases, 38 runs, 34 RBIs, 27 walks, six doubles, and three homeruns.
Hunter Morris leads EIU in runs batted in so far this season. Morris currently has 49 RBIs with 14 doubles and ten home runs.
Jimmy Govern and Pena currently rank among the top in the OVC in several categories. Pena currently holds first in batting average in the OVC with .379, while Govern ranks first in runs scored on the year with 61.
Carson Haws will get the start on the mound for the Panthers against Butler on Tuesday. Haws enters the mid-week matchup with a record of 3-0 and an ERA of 5.16.
The Panthers will travel to Lexington, Virginia for a non-conference weekend series against Virginia Military Institute (May 16-18).
