The Eastern Illinois baseball team will close out conference play this weekend against OVC opponent Austin Peay. The Panthers head into the weekend series at 24-24 and 13-14 in the OVC.
The series is set to begin Friday 1 pm. The second game of the series will be played on Saturday at 1 pm. The two teams will close out their conference series on Sunday afternoon at 1 pm.
EIU will go with
Michael YaSenka to kickoff the series on Friday.
Spenser Dexter will get the ball to start the second game of the series on Saturday. EIU has yet to announce who will close the series on Sunday.
Christian Pena enters the weekend currently leading the Panthers with a .377 batting average. Pena has 75 total bases, 61 hits, 33 runs, 32 RBIs, 25 walks, five doubles, and three home runs.
Jimmy Govern and
Grant Emme currently lead hitting categories for the OVC. Govern holds first place in runs scored with 59 on the season, while Emme holds first in sacrifice flies (5) and bunts (9).
Hunter Morris currently leads the Panthers in runs batted in. Morris currently has 45 RBIs on the season. Morris has 14 doubles and nine home runs on the season.
David Martinez heads into the weekend leading the Austin Peay offense. Martinez is currently hitting .357 with 83 total bases, 34 RBIs, 34 runs, 20 walks, eight doubles, five homeruns, and two triples.
Josh Rye will get the call to open up the series on the hill for Austin Peay on Friday. Jacques Pucheu will get the ball to start the second game of the series on Saturday. Austin Peay has yet to announce who will close the series on Sunday.
Following their series against Austin Peay, the Eastern Illinois baseball team will play host to Butler on Tuesday, May 14th.
