Men's Soccer Takes On IUPUI At Home Tuesday

The Panthers will defend their home field against the Jaguars

HOME SWEET HOME: Eastern Illinois (3-4-1) will take on IUPUI (3-3-1) at Lakeside Field where the Panthers have been undefeated so far this season (2-0). The Panthers are coming off of a 0-0 tie to Summit League rival Denver this past weekend, while the Jaguars are coming off of a double overtime 2-1 victory against Green Bay. The Panthers have scored a total of five goals in front of the home crowd. EIU will look to remain undefeated on the home pitch.

PLAYER TO WATCH: Senior defender Edgar Mesa was a 2018 All-Conference player and has continued to show out for the Panthers. Mesa scored his first goal of the season against Belmont and has been nominated by his team as the Summit League defensive player of the week. Mesa has played a key role on the defensive end and has been a part of three shutouts by the Panthers this season. 

THE PANTHERS OFFENSE: EIU struggled last match to take shots against Denver, only netting three shots through the match. The Panthers have been much more proficient on offense at home, averaging a total of 13 shots at home against opponents. On the road the offense has been much more conservative, averaging only four shots.
 
SERIES HISTORY: EIU and IUPUI have matched up 16 total times dating back to 1999. In the first match-up, IUPUI came out with a 2-1 victory over the Panthers. The current record currently sits at 4-6-6 in IUPUI's favor. The last match was in 2018 which resulted in a 0-0 tie.

UP NEXT: EIU will stay in Charleston this week and return to Lakeside Field to play Oral Roberts on Saturday Oct. 5th. This will be the second match of Summit League play for the Panthers. 

HEAD COACH: Kiki Lara is in his fifth season as the EIU men's soccer head coach.  Lara has led the Panthers to three straight Summit League Tournament appearances during his four previous seasons. During that time he has coached the Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year and several All-Summit League and All-Newcomer team selections.  He is assisted by Carlos Sendin Castelao
