This week looks at the top five sprinters in the history of Eastern Illinois men's track & field as we look at the top 100 meter dash times. The list includes distinguished athletes that reached both the NCAA and Olympic stage.
Zye Boey (2012): Boey holds the school record in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.15 but it took Boey until the very end of his standout career to capture the mark. His time of 10.15 came at the NCAA Regional in 2012 as he placed second. Boey would go on to earn All-American status placing 14th at the NCAA Outdoor National Championships. During the summer of 2012, Boey competed in the US Olympic Trials in both the 100 meter and 200 meter events.
Â
Claude Magee (1984): Magee held the record in the 100 meter dash for close to 20 years with a time of 10.16.  His record setting time came in 1984 at the Gatorade Classic at the University of Tennessee. During the season Magee posted five first place finishes in the 100 meter dash and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Â
Sandy Osei-Agyeman (1972): Osei-Agyeman was a great international sprinter for the Panthers in the early 1970's. He set the school record in the 100 yard dash with a converted time of 10.2 for the 100 meters. Osei-Agyeman set the record at the first-ever EIU Invite during the 1972 season. He was selected to the Ghana National Team and would represent the nation in the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich running on the 4x100 relay team.
Â
Obadiah Cooper (1994): Cooper was a speedster for both the EIU track and football teams. In the 100 meter dash he posted a career best time of 10.22 with the time coming at the Indiana State Invite. Cooper would collect five first place finishes in the 100 meter dash during the season and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships. He would also sign a free agent contract in the National Football League but never appeared in a regular season game. Â
Demarcus Brooks (2009): Brooks joined Zye Boey as members in the 2009 EIU freshman class and posted the second fastest 100 meter freshman time in school history. His time of 10.33 came at the Memphis Invite during a first place finish. Brooks would hit an NCAA Regional qualifying mark but did not participate in the event.Â
