NKU Edges Men's Tennis 4-3

O'Brien and Slabbert pick up singles wins for Panthers

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. - Eastern Illinois men's tennis won the doubles point to take a 1-0 lead on Friday afternoon before Northern Kentucky rallied with four wins in singles to beat the Panthers 4-3 at the Dodds Tennis Center in Champaign.
 
EIU fell to 7-5 on the season while NKU improved to 2-4.
 
EIU secured the doubles point winning at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.  Freddie O'Brien and Christos Kyrillou played at No. 2 doubles picking up a 6-2 decision.  The Panthers claimed the point when Gertjan De Wilder and Gage Kingsmith posted a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles.
 
NKU would win the first three points in singles play collecting wins at No. 2, 4 and 5 singles.
 
Cameron Slabbert would bring the score in the match to 3-2 in favor of NKU with his win at No. 6 singles.  Slabbert won 6-3, 6-4.
 
The Norse would edge EIU with a win at No. 3 singles before O'Brien won the final point of the match at No. 1 singles for EIU.  O'Brien won a three-set affair 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.
