Eastern Illinois football improved to 2-1 on the season with Saturday's win over No. 25 Illinois State in the Mid-America Classic. On Monday, running back
MJ Flowers was named the Big South-OVC Football Association Freshman of the Week for his part in that win.
On a day when total offense was hard to come by, Flowers had 55 all purpose yards with 25 yards on the ground and 30 yards receiving.
He rushed three times for 25 yards for a 8.3 yards per carry. He also hauled in four passes for 30 yards including two receptions during the Panthers final game winning drive.
Flowers is the second EIU player to win conference Freshman of the Week honors this year joining punter
Jacob Horvath who won after the opening weekend victory at Indiana State.
EIU returns to action this Saturday hosting McNeese at 2 p.m. for Family Weekend at O'Brien Field.
