MJ Flowers was a big part of the Eastern Illinois breakout game of the season during Saturday's win over in-state rival Western Illinois as the Panthers offense finished with 534 yards of total offense. On Monday the sophomore running back was named the Big South OVC Football Offensive Player of the Week.
Flowers was a threat out of the backfield both rushing and receiving finishing the game with 280 all-purpose yards, the fifth most by a player in the FCS this season. He came up just short of his third career 200-yard rushing game collecting 194 yards on the ground with one score. Through the air Flowers hauled in three passes for 86 yards and two touchdowns including a 64-yard grab that put EIU ahead on the opening drive of the second half. He brook off a 65-yard run in the fourth quarter which set up the Panthers for their final score going up 45-31 in what proved to be a one touchdown game.
EIU returns to action this week making its first ever trip to the Tar Heel State when EIU plays at Gardner-Webb on Saturday afternoon in Boiling Springs, NC.
