Eastern Illinois returns to the road for its final non-conference game of the 2023-24 season. The Panthers are coming off a 73-60 win over Indiana State as they improved to 3-0 at Groniger Arena and 3-5 on the season. EIU travels to No. 17 Iowa State on Sunday for the Panthers third game this season against a nationally ranked opponent. EIU has road losses at No. 23 Illinois and No. 12 Kansas State. The Cyclones are 8-2 with a game against Iowa before hosting EIU. Following the game at Iowa State, EIU opens Ohio Valley Conference play on the road at Southeast Missouri on December 19. Â
TEAM STEALS COME UP BIG AGAINST INDIANA STATE
While
Kiyley Flowers individually leads the NCAA in steals per game, Eastern Illinois had a team effort on defense in the win over Indiana State finishing the game with 19 steals.Â
Alex Rouse led the way with five steals as five different players had two or more steals. Flowers had four while
Ella Lune added three. On the season EIU is averaging 10.9 steals per game which ranks third in the OVC this season and 50th in the NCAA. EIU has five games this season with ten or more steals including ten or more in the opening three games of the season. The school record for steals in a game is 35 against Butler on Dec. 7, 1983. EIU has eight games with 22 or more steals in a game and the last time EIU had 20 or more steals in a game was Nov. 6, 2018 against Oakland City University with 21 steals.
MCGLONE CRACKS 20-POINT MARK AGAIN
Macy McGlone was back in the 20-point scoring column in the win over Indiana State as the reigning OVC Player of the Year was 10-of-15 from the floor scoring 26 points. McGlone currently ranks second in the OVC in scoring at 18.3 points per game. It was her fourth 20-point game this season and 22nd time she has passed the 20-point barrier in her EIU career. Earlier this season she became the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000 point club and currently ranks 24th on the career list with 1,097 points. McGlone is one of four players in school history with 1,000 points, 600 rebounds and 100 blocks. In the game against Indiana State, McGlone joined the EIU top ten for rebounds matching Laura Mull in tenth with 670 boards. She is sixth on EIU's career chart with 114 blocks and second in career double-doubles with 35 after setting the school single season mark with 26 last year.
