Eastern Illinois won its seventh straight Ohio Valley Conference opener as the Panthers picked up a 71-55 road win at Southeast Missouri. It marked the second straight season EIU has opened conference play on the road with a win. The Panthers improved to 4-6 overall, 1-0 in the OVC. EIU travels to Little Rock on Saturday afternoon for the final game prior to the Winter Break. Little Rock is also 1-0 in OVC play following a win over SIUE on Thursday night. The Trojans are 3-7 overall on the year including 3-2 at home.
MCGLONE MAKES HISTORY
Macy McGlone ranked second in the NCAA last season setting the EIU single season record with 26 double-doubles during the season, that total ranking second in single season history in the OVC. On Thursday night McGlone posted her fourth double-double this season (17 pts / 18 reb) which was the 34th of her EIU career tying her for the Panthers career record with Sabina Oroszova and Toni Collins. Earlier this season McGlone joined those two players along with Rachel Galligan as the only four Panthers with 1,000 points, 600 rebounds and 100 blocks for a career. McGlone continues to climb up the EIU career charts in all three categories with 1,111 points (23rd), 696 rebounds (8th) and 117 blocks (5th). Her 18 rebounds in the game are tied for the fourth highest single game total in school history. McGlone holds the number three spot with 19 rebounds last season vs Tennessee State along with ranking fourth with 18 rebounds at Morehead State last year.
MCGLOTHAN JOINS DISTINCT EIU GROUP
Eastern Illinois has had seven different head coaches for its women's basketball program during its 29 year stint as a member of the Ohio Valley Conference. On Thursday night first-year head coach
Marqus McGlothan became just the third in that group to win their OVC opener as the Panthers beat Southeast Missouri 71-55. McGlothan joins Lee Buchanan who won his OVC debut in 2012-13 beating Tennessee State, 76-67, in his one season as the Panthers head coach. Debbie Black won her OVC debut the following season (2013-14) with a 80-70 win over TSU.
