Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country will return to action on Friday competing in this year's NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Oklahoma State University.

The women's 6K event will begin at 10:30 am followed by the men's 10K event at 11:30 am at the Greiner Family OSU XC Course in Stillwater, Okla.

Both EIU teams are coming off fourth place finishes at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships which were hosted by EIU on Oct. 31.   Brenda Torres earned first team All-OVC honors for the women placing second at the OVC Championships and posting the second fastest 6K time in program history.   Rylea Borgic was a second team All-OVC performer for the women.

On the men's side Michael Atkins and Cale Smith both were second team All-OVC performers.

The best finish for the EIU women in recent years was an 18th place finish at the 2021 Midwest Regional.   Oklahoma State hosted the Midwest Regional two years ago with the EIU women finishing 23rd.  Mackenzie Aldridge was the top EIU runner in 70th place.  There are 38 teams set to compete on the women's side including nationally ranked teams Oklahoma State and Iowa State.

Iowa State and Oklahoma State are also among the ranked teams in the men's field of 34 teams.  EIU's best finish in recent years was 12th at the 2018 NCAA Midwest Regional.  Two years ago in Stillwater, the EIU men placed 20th with Adam Swanson the top performer with a 29th place finish.
