EIU Swimming at The Summit League Championships

ON TAP: The Eastern Illinois men's and women's swim teams head to Iowa City this week to take part in the 2025 Summit League Championships. The four-day event is set to get underway at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19th.
PREDICTED ORDER OF FINISH: Back in the preseason, the EIU men's team was picked to finish sixth in the Summit League, while the women were tabbed to finish in seventh place. Denver was selected to win both the men's and women's championships.
2024 CHAMPIONSHIPS: At last season's Summit League Championships, both EIU teams posted eighth place finishes, with the women scoring 145 points and the men compiling 86. The Panthers recorded five school top ten times at the meet, including a school record in the 50 free (20.28) by
Dismas Dillon.
LAST TIME OUT: Eastern closed out their regular season two weeks ago with a pair of meets at Evansville and Illinois.
The women picked up a 102-99 win over the Purple aces as
Autumn Grinter and
Sydney VanderVelde both posted two first-place finishes, with Grinter taking gold in the 50 free (25.11) and 100 free (55.60) and VanderVelde winning the 1,000 free (11:02.68) and 500 free (5:25. 56).
On the men's side,
Dismas Dillon won two events with times of 21.66 in the 50 free and 47.30 in the 100 free, while Eddie Meyers picked up a gold in the 500 free with a time of 4:53.46.
The women's final meet was at Illinois, where they fell 73-108.
Anna Mueller took first-place in the 500 free (5:39.77) while
Sydney VanderVelde came out on top in the 100 breast (1:12.60).
TOP CONFERENCE TIMES: Corinne Staneart's 100 IM time of 57.70 is the fastest in the Summit League this season, while here 50 fly mark of 25.55 is sixth best in the league.
HEAD COACH: Scott Teeters is in his first season as Eastern Illinois head swimming coach. Teeters has nearly 40 years of coaching experience, including 25 at the collegiate level. He has led Division I programs at Eastern Michigan, Oakland, and Gardner Webb. He also served as head coach at Olivet Nazarene University where he guided his teams to three national championships, including back-to-back men's championships in 2016 and 2017, and a women's championship in 2017. Teeters has also served in multiple leadership roles for USA Swimming.
