Eastern Illinois features an experienced group of personnel at the tight end position for first-year position coach Mason Keeler.
Â
Four of the five current players in the tight end room all stepped foot on the field for the Panthers last season with the lone exception being
Chase McConnell who redshirted the 2024 campaign.
Â
"This spring our tight end group is being challenged to chase perfection. Every step of the way we will aim for excellence and uphold the standard. Stressing the importance of the smallest details. WE are always trying to remain Humble and Hungry," said Keeler.
Â
Alex Ginnever came on as starter at the position late in the season finishing the year with 22 catches for 232 yards and two touchdowns. The reception total was the most among the tight end group and fourth on the Panthers roster.
Â
Joe McNab played in 11 games seeing time as a starter on special teams and used primarily as a blocking tight end at the position.
Â
Alex Herrera and
Jordan Sprycha both used redshirt seasons after joining the program with both targeted as offensive weapons in their limited playing time.
Â
Herrera transferred from College of the Sequoias and played in four games to get the NCAA participation redshirt season. He made one start hauling in 12 passes for 150 yards and one touchdown.
Â
Sprycha transferred from McKendree and also played in four games to get the NCAA participation redshirt season. He had one reception for the year after earning honorable mention All-GLVC honors the previous year at McKendree.
