Track and Field Prepares for Gibson Invitational

Marks the second trip this outdoor season to Terre Haute

ON-TAP: The Eastern Illinois Indoor Track and Field team is set to head back to Terre Haute, Ind. for the second time this outdoor season to compete in the Gibson Invitational at Gibson Track & Field Complex on April 17-19.

The three day event will begin early Thursday morning as the women's heptathlon is scheduled to start first with the men's decathlon following shortly after. Friday morning will wrap up the women's heptathlon and men's decathlon before kicking off the rest of the distance races. The 3000m Steeplechase is set to start at 6:00pm CT followed by the 5000m heats, with the last event scheduled to begin at 7:45pm CT. Saturday's slate will introduce the sprinters, beginning with the 100m hurdles at 12:00pm CT with the final race of the evening being the 4x400m relay starting at 5:45pm CT.

EIU EARLY BIRD RECAP: Eastern Illinois Track and Field wrapped up a strong showing at the Normal Invite on Saturday with 16 podium finishes.

Rylea Borgic (11:09.56) and Cale Smith (9:25.19) opened the day with first-place finishes in the 3000m Steeplechase. Both the men's (Kirby, D. Lacy, S. Lacy, Perrin – 41.46) and women's (Dobbins, Quinn, McBride, Venhaus – 46.68) 4x100m relay teams also earned gold, with the women posting a season best time.

In the field events, Isabella Fabrizio claimed gold in the hammer throw (48.85m) and shot put (13.30m), while teammates Emily Sykes (12.98m, shot put) and Gracie Cox (44.08m, discus) both finished second. Sam Bradbury led the men with second-place finishes in both shot put (15.56m) and discus (47.05m).

Shawn Lacy won the 100m dash (10.74) and javelin (52.53m), while Abby Venhaus placed second in the 100m with a season-best 12.05.

In the high jump, Elijah Skutt (2.01m) and Abraham Johnson (1.98m) went 1-2, with Johnson also taking gold in the triple jump (15.31m). Taryn Tarquin won the women's triple jump (11.90m).

In the 400m hurdles, Hallee Thomas (1:03.06) and Tyler Miller (56.41) both earned silver. Daniel Lacy set a personal best (46.93) for second in the 400m. Kenyetietta Quinn (24.62 PR) and Angela Dobbins (25.56) placed second and third in the 200m, while Jahleel Perrin ran a personal best 21.73 for silver on the men's side.

OVC TOP THREE: Nine Panther athletes, along with the men's and women's 4x100m Relay teams, currently sit in one of the top three spots in the OVC for their respective events.

Kylie Haacke's performance in the 10,000m run at the WashU Distance Carnival has earned her the third spot on the podium in the OVC as Rylea Borgic's performance in the 3000m Steeplechase has also earned her the second place spot in the conference. Cale Smith also recorded a strong 3000m Steeplechase finish at the Normal Invite after crossing the finish line in 9:25.19 to finish first in the OVC.

The Panther men's 4x100m relay team, consisting of Jahleel Perrin, Daniel Lacy, Shawn Lacy, and Nathan Kirby ran a time of 41.46 last weekend at Illinois State to hold the second place spot in the conference. The women's 4x100m Relay team of Abby Venhaus, Kenyetietta Quinn, MaKenna McBride, and Angela Dobbins went on to secure  the third place spot after crossing the finish line in 46.68 at the Normal Invite.

Daniel Lacy currently holds the second place spot in both the 200m and the 100m dash.  Lacy posted a time of 21.22 in the 200m at the Pacesetter Invitational and followed up with a time of 10.63 at the Normal Invite. Lacy's 400m time of 46.93 also puts him at the top of the 400m dash list.

Abraham Johnson continues to build his freshman resume, as he moved into the third place spot in the triple jump after his performance at the EIU Big Blue Classic. Elijah Skutt moves his way onto the high jump leaderboards, posting a height of 2.01m at the Normal Invite to slide into the third place spot.

Hallee Thomas also had a successful home meet, securing the third place spot in the conference in the 400m hurdles after posting a time of 1:02.79

Sam Bradbury and Alex Stout  fill out the leaderboard for the Panthers in the field events, as Bradbury holds third for the discus Stout sits in third for shot put.

NEXT UP: The Panthers are back in action the following weekend as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to compete in the Drake relays on April 23-26.
