Track and Field Concludes Monster Weekend

Panthers find success across Drake Relays and Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Eastern Illinois Track and Field team concluded their weekend at the Jim Freeman\Clark Wood Invitational at Owsley B. Frazier Cardinal Park in Louisville, Ky. The Panthers finish the weekend with a multitude of top finishes and personal/seasonal bests.

Graduate distance runner Mackenzie Aldridge put up strong numbers on Thursday at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa. Aldridge recorded a time of 17:37.85 in the 5000m run to finish 18th place.

Isabella Fabrizio ignited the weekend for the Panthers in Louisville, placing top ten in both the shot put and the hammer throw. Her toss of 13.03m in the shot put placed her in seventh as her personal record throw of 50.83m in the hammer throw put her in tenth place. Sam Bradbury followed up with a toss 15.29m in the shot put to slide into the seventh place spot in the men's shot put.

Kylie Haacke, Rylea Borgic, and Cale Smith continued their dominant spring in the distance races. Haacke logged a personal record 17:44.89 in the 5000m run to place sixth as Borgic's time of 11:03.22 in the 3000m Steeplechase secured her a personal record and fourth place finish. Smith would go on to cross the finish line in 9:18.16 in the men's 3000m Steeplechase to finish in the top spot.

Kenyetietta Quinn and Porter Conroy dominated the "B" and "C" flights of the high jump, as Conroy recorded a jump of 1.85m to place fifth as Quinn's number of 1.65m earned her a personal best and first place finish on the podium.

Abby Venhaus also notched a record day, finishing third in the long jump with a season-best distance of 5.71m. Abraham Johnson also dominated the sand pit, recording a second-place finish after notching a distance of 15.26m in the triple jump.

Additionally, Daniel Lacy headlined the sprinters for EIU, logging a personal record 46.39 in the 400m dash to earn a first-place finish in the event.

Mikaila Ek also manufactured success in the "C" flight of the women's pole vault, securing a share of the silver medal finish after reaching a height of 3.51m.

The Panthers are set to travel north to Champaign, Ill. to compete in the Fighting Illini Tune-Up on Friday, May 2nd. This marks the second time this calendar year that Eastern Illinois has competed at the University of Illinois as their most recent visit was on Jan. 24th for the Fighting Illini Challenge and Combined Events during the indoor season.
