Eastern Illinois track and field collects three individuals for OVC awards for their efforts over the weekend. EIU sent a split squad to both the Fighting Illini Challenge and the Notre Dame Invitational. Sam Bradbury, Nathan Kirby, and Layla Bonilla each earned a respective award.
Sam Bradbury:
Sam Bradbury won the OVC Male Field Athlete of the Week award for his impressive performance at the Fighting Illini Challenge. The senior from Mattoon, Illinois, placed third in the men's weight throw with a 19.09m (62-0.75) mark. His score is a new personal record and ranks 5th all-time in EIU history. Bradbury also competed in the shot put, scoring a 14.44m (47-4.5) mark.
Nathan Kirby:
Nathan Kirby won the OVC Male Track Athlete of the Week award after competing in the Notre Dame Invitational. Kirby placed first in the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.06 seconds. His finals time is the fastest in the OVC to this date.
Layla Bonilla:
Layla Bonilla won the OVC Female Field Athlete of the Week award after competing in the Fighting Illini Challenge. Bonilla placed third in the high jump with a season-best score of 1.60m (5'3"). The freshman also competed in the triple jump, placing 5th with a 12.24m (40'2") mark. This is her second award of the season after winning the OVC Female Freshman Athlete of the Week last time out.
