Eastern Illinois outdoor track and field heads just across the state line this weekend as the Panthers compete at the Indiana State Pacesetter Invitational on Friday and Saturday in Terre Haute.
Friday's competition will have two field events at 1 pm (ET) with the hammer and javelin. Running events Friday night consist of the steeplechase and 5,000 meter run with action starting at 5 pm (ET). On Saturday both track and field events are slated for a 12 pm (ET) start time.
Last weekend in the season opening EIU Big Blue Classic, the Panthers posted 12 first-place finishes with a pair of wins by
Shawn Lacy (100 m / javelin),
Alex Stout (hammer / shot put) and
Machi Nelson (long jump / triple jump).
Nelson earned OVC Male Freshman of the Week honors for his performances which included a 24'7" long jump mark and 47'4.25" in the triple jump.
Abby Venhaus moved up on the EIU women's Top Ten in both of those events over the weekend. Venhaus is now fourth in the long jump (19'9.50") and eighth in the triple jump (39'10").
She also ran the opening leg on the 4x100 relay team that posted the tenth best time in school history at 46.38. Venhaus was joined by
Kenyetietta Quinn,
Annabelle Coudron and
Analena Peterson.
Additional first place finishes at the EIU Big Blue were turned in by Venhaus (triple jump),
Layla Bonilla (high jump),
Gavin Snyder (pole vault),
Ashlyn Denney (1,500m),
Cale Smith (5,000m),
Rylea Borgic (5,000m).
