Eastern Illinois men's and women's cross country went on the road to Normal, Ill on Friday morning to compete at the ISU Redbird Invite 

The ISU Redbird Invite welcomes other teams like the University of Iowa, Illinois Springfield, and Illinois State. On the women's side, Northern Illinois University was also in attendance along with the other teams above.  

The EIU men placed fourth in the field while the women finished fourth as well.  

Avery Braker led the EIU women to a 17th place finish which was among the five schools in the meet and 44 total women's runners. Braker placed 17th in the 6,000-meter race with a time of 22:37.0.  

Chloe Proffitt and Ashlyn Denney crossed in 23rd and 24th place with Proffitt posting a time of 23:31.4 and Denney in at 23.31.7.  

Aly Douglass and Macie Russell were the final two EIU scored runners in the top five.  Doulass was 25th with a time of 23:36.5 while Russell finished 27th with a time of 23:39.2.  

Cale Smith led the Panther men finishing 14th in the field as the race was run at the 8,000-meter distance.  Smith crossed at 25:30.9. Kasen Blain was next crossing in 27th place with a time of 26:31.8.  

Miteku Branch, Jiberil Lesman, and Phillip Canopy rounded out the top five EIU runners in the meet.  Branch was 28th with a time of 26:34.2. Lesman was 29th with a time of 26:37.9. Canopy crossed at 27:29.1 to finish 34th.  

 EIU returns to action at the ISU Nike XC Town Twilight, Friday, October 2.
