2014-15 EIU Year In Review - No. 10

EIU football players look to continue career in NFL and CFL

7/10/2015 1:42:00 PM

** During the month of July EIUpanthers.com will take a look back at 13 moments, events or performances that helped shape the 2014-15 school year. **

Eastern Illinois football was once again on the national stage as NFL Rookie Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo won a Super Bowl Championship with the New England Patriots and veteran QB Tony Romo set a Dallas Cowboys record during the course of the season.

Much closer to home two EIU players had opportunities to further their playing careers with one of them on the active roster this summer in the Canadian Football League.

Andrew Manley signed a contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the CFL and reported to training camp in late May.  After initially being released, Manley was resigned by the club following several injuries to quarterbacks on the roster.  He looks to join a list of former EIU players that have had a career north of the border.

Wide receiver Adam Drake was able to use his FCS leading receiving credentials as he secured a try-out with both the Patriots and New Orleans Saints.  Drake finished his Panther career in the top three in several EIU receiving categories.
