BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- The Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming squads completed action at the multi-team Western Kentucky Invitational, with the Panther men bringing home a second place finish while the EIU women ended up in seventh place.
The three-day event, hosted by the Hilltoppers, marks the final event by the Panther squads this semester as both teams will now continue season training following the holiday break.
EIU had no event winners over the weekend, either individually or in relay action, with the lone third place finishers being sophomore
Ken Tiltges in the 200-IM with a time of 1:58.73 and junior Matt O'Hagan in his 100-Breast race via a time of 59.35.
The WKU men and women pulled away from the competition to win the team trophies via scores of 1347 and 1161, respectively.
The Panther men's second place score of 616.5 topped the Cumberlands (581), Evansville (453), Mary Washington (286), and Sewanee (196.5) and came about despite not sporting a diving squad.
On the women's side, EIU's 165 team score outlasted Sewanee's 92 team total. Following WKU, team finishers included Vanderbilt (899), Evansville (596), Arkansas-Little Rock (342.5), Cumberlands (241), and Mary Washington (174.5).
EIU will return to competition for the winter portion of the schedule which is set to begin on Jan. 4 at Auburn, while also competing at the Tunica Invite on Jan. 7-8.
