Panthers Break Four School Records On Day Three

Panthers complete day three of the Summit League Championships

The Eastern Illinois swim team completed day three of the Summit League Championships. Panthers were highlighted by four new school records. Alexander Sadowski placed 5th in the 100 Yard Backstroke A-final. EIU will compete on the final day of the championships on Saturday.  



Men's Swimming: 

Luke Helm placed 14th in the 100 Yard Butterfly prelims to advance to the B final, in which he placed 15th with a time of 49.57, which is the fastest time in EIU history. Right behind him was Canyon Bain, who advanced to the B final in the 100 Yard Butterfly, placing 14th with a time of 49.56, which is now the second-fastest time in Panther's history.  

Nolan Wallace placed 16th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 56.38. Wallace competed in the B Final, finishing 11th with a time of 55.80, which broke the record for the fastest time in EIU history.  

Alexander Sadowski finished 6th in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 48.76. Sadowski advanced to the A Final, scoring a 5th place finish with a time of 48.49, which broke the record for the fastest time in EIU history.   

Robert Higgins placed 14th in the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 50.27, advancing to the B final. In the B final, he finished 15th with a time of 50.26, which ranks 5th all-time in EIU history.  

The 400 Medley Relay team finished 5th with a time of 3:18.78, which is the fastest time in EIU history.  



Women's Swimming: 

Sydney VanderVelde placed 7th in the 400 IM prelims with a time of 4:32.67, which is the second fastest time in EIU history. VanderVelde advanced to the A final and placed 8th with a finals time of 4:38.47. 

Sophia Buswell earned a top ten finish in the 100 Yard Butterfly to advance to the B final, in which she placed 5th with a time of 57.57, which ranks 7th all-time in the program record book. 

Genevieve Biberdorf finished 9th in the 100 Yard Breaststroke preliminary round with a time of 1:04.61. Biberdorf advanced to the B final and finished 10th with a time of 1:04.22, which is the fastest time in EIU history.  



Up Next: EIU will wrap up the four-day championship on Saturday with results and standings to be released.
