Men and Women to Play Two OVC Matches

Home finale scheduled for Sunday

The EIU men's and women's tennis team have an action-packed weekend in the Ohio Valley Conference. Both teams play in Murray, Ky. against Murray State at 2 p.m. on Saturday (April 10) and the home finale against Austin Peay at noon on Sunday (April 11).

The men last played on April 4, blasting Tennessee State 7-0. No Panther lost a set. Michael Sperry shut his opponent out in straight sets (6-0,6-0).

The Panther women had the same result as the men, downing Tennessee State 7-0 without losing a set. Cara Huck shut out her opponent at No. 2 singles (6-0,6-0). Huck combined with Annie Egan to to shut out their No. 2 doubles opponents (8-0).

The wins move the Panther men to 4-13 (1-4 OVC) and the Panther women to 6-10 (3-4 OVC).

Next on the EIU schedule are the Murray State Racers. Their men come in 4-10 (1-3 OVC) while their women are 7-10 (4-4 OVC). The Racer men have lost three straight matches, the last of which was a 5-1 decision against the University of Kentucky. Ben Clos has played all of the No. 1 singles matches for Murray State while Renaldo Domoney's 7-6 record makes him the only men's player with a winning percentage over .500.

The Racer women were edged by the Governors of Austin Peay 4-3 in their last match. Angela McGahee has played all 17 of the Racers No. 1 singles matches, but the team's best record belongs to Lyndsay Ottosen, who has compiled an 11-6 record playing all of her matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.

On Sunday, the Austin Peay men 5-5 (2-4 OVC) and women 14-3 (7-1 OVC) come to Charleston for EIU's final home match of the season. Sean Bailey has played eight of ten matches at No. 1 singles. Henrique Norbiato (10-4) has the best record for the Governors.
 
The Lady Governors are winners of nine consecutive matches, besting Tennessee State 7-0 this past Wednesday. Vanja Tomic is 14-2 at No. 1 singles, Carolin Weikard has a sparkling 12-2 record at No. 2 singles and Mariana Pagan comes in 13-2 at No. 3 singles.

After the weekend matches, the Panther men and women will play next in Paducah, Ky. at the OVC Championship running from April 16-18.
