MOREHEAD, Ky. -- The Eastern Illinois softball squad dropped two tough road games in Ohio Valley Conference at Morehead State on Friday to snap a season-long nine-game win streak as the Eagles upset the league-leading Panthers, 2-0 and 6-1.
With the twinbill losses, the Panthers fall to 15-13 on the year and 7-2 in OVC action. Morehead State, meanwhile, improved to 16-13 and 7-12.
Eastern was limited to a three-hit day, as freshman designated hitter
Abby Wood earned the lone Panther hit in the game one shutout, while sophomore
Jen Saucier and senior
Denee' Menzione accounted for the other two hits, with both coming via doubles.
Down 6-0 early, Saucier's double-bagger would plate newcomer
Melise Brown to get the Panthers on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth frame of game two.
The first game shutout turned into a pitchers duel as junior
Amber May pitched a complete game loss, striking out five and walking two, yet gave-up three hits, including a solo home run and double. MSU's Gjevre scratched past May with her own eight strikeout, three walk game.
In the second game, the home squad used a five-run fourth inning to give EIU freshman
Natalie Wunderlich the complete game loss, dropping her to 5-4 on the year off a three-strikeout, two-walk game.
EIU will look to salvage the weekend series at MSU on Saturday, as the two league foes are set for an 11 am single game at the Eagle's University Field.
