MACOMB, Ill. -- Touching first in nearly every event on the day, the Eastern Illinois men's and women's swimming squads completely dominated host Western Illinois on Saturday afternoon, as the Panthers swept the instate dual meet.
The EIU men and women won their matchups, 185-62 and 174-70 to improve to 5-1 and 2-4 on the season, respectively.
The dual sweep of the Leathernecks marks the second consecutive season that both Panther units splashed past their arch-rivals, and fellow Summit League foes.
Two Panther men individual swimmers earned a couple of first place finishes, as
Rich Waszak won both the 200-Fly and 500-Free, while
Mike Lacine touched first in the 200-Free and again in the 100-Fly.
Other individual winners for the guys included
Matt Scaliatine in the 200-IM,
Colin McGill in 100-Back,
Ken Tiltges in 100-Breast, Matt O'Hagan in 50-Free sprint,
Chacour Koop in 200-Back,
Josh Miller in 200-Breast.
For the women,
Alyssa Lehman came in first in both the 100 and 200-Back events, as did
Megan Eshleman in both her 500 and 1000-Free races
Also winning a couple of events were
Kelli Dicanio in both her 100 and 200-Breast swims, and
Kate Paige in the 100 and 200-Flys
Other winners for the ladies were
Hailey Foss in 200-Free, Katie Paige in 200-Fly,
Morgan Roberts in 50-Free,
Mary Lacine in 200-IM.
The Panther squads earned both relay wins, with Lehman, Dicanio, Paige, and Roberts winning the 200-Medley Relay for the women, while Waszak,
Joe Ciliak,
Cody Showers, and McGill winning the guys Medley as well.
EIU also captured first in the final relay with Lehman, Dicanio,
Janis McGee, and Roberts teaming up for the women and Tiltges, Lehman,
Adam Jones and Lacine joining forces to win their respective 200-Free Relay races.
The two Panther units will next travel to Indianapolis on Monday to compete in the IUPUI Jaguar Relays, which will be held in the same facility that will host the end-of-season Summit League meet later in February.
