Dameron Hires Coordinators For Football

Greg Stevens and Kane Wommack join first year head coach Kim Dameron's staff

CHARLESTON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois football coach Kim Dameron has announced the first two members of his coaching staff with the hiring of Greg Stevens as the Panthers offensive coordinator and Kane Wommack as the Panthers defensive coordinator. 

Stevens was most recently the offensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana where he helped guide the team into the 2013 FCS Playoffs with the Lions advancing to the quarterfinal round.  During the 2013 season Stevens offensive unit ranked 10th in the nation in total offense at 483.3 yards per game while averaging 38.4 points per game to rank 12th in the nation.

Stevens spent two seasons as the offensive coordinator at Southeastern Louisiana on head coach Ron Roberts staff.  Prior to that he was the offensive coordinator on Roberts staff at Delta State where he coached for two seasons.  The Delta State team ranked 12th in the NCAA Division II ranks in total offense as they played in the NCAA Division II National Championship game one season and advanced to the playoff semifinals the other season. 

Stevens was the wide receivers coach at Utah State (2005-08) for four seasons before joining Roberts staff.  Prior to joining the staff at Utah State, Stevens was the offensive coordinator at Stephen F. Austin where his offensive unit led the Southland Conference in passing for two seasons.  He worked on the staff with Coach Kim Dameron while at SFA.  He was the offensive coordinator at Arkansas-Monticello from 1999-2001 where his offense set 30 school records and ranked among the top five offenses in the NCAA Division II ranks.

Stevens has coached at Mesa State, Eastern Arizona and Snow (Utah) Junior College.  He played quarterback at Snow JC before finishing his career at Eastern Oregon University.

Wommack returns to the Ohio Valley Conference after previous stops at Jacksonville State and UT Martin.  He most recently worked on the staff at Mississippi assisting with coaching the safeties for the Rebels defense that ranked 36th in the nation in pass defense and 38th in total defense.  He helped coach Ole Miss to an appearance in the Music City Bowl this past season.

Wommack was the defensive line coach at Jacksonville State during the 2011 season as the Gamecocks won a share of the OVC regular season title.  He was the quarterbacks coach during the 2010 season at UT Martin.

Wommack played fullback at Arkansas from 2005-06 as the Razorbacks won the SEC West Division in 2006.  He later transferred and finished his career at Southern Mississippi where the team played in three bowl games.  Following his playing career, Wommack began his coaching career as a volunteer and student coach at Southern Miss.
