2014 Summit League All-Academic Swimming Teams (HTML)
ELMHURST, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois senior swimmer
Olga Livshits has garnered Academic All-Summit League Team accolades for the second consecutive year, as recently announced by the league office.
With the conclusion of the 2014 Summit League Swimming & Diving Championships, the league has announced its Swimming & Diving Academic All-League Teams as voted on by the seven institution's faculty athletics representatives and sports information directors. A combined 21 student-athletes, 10 men and 11 women, were named to the two teams and honored for their combined athletic and academic performances this season.
A native of Israel, Livshits paced the women on the list with a perfect 4.00 GPA as the chemistry major, and business minor, previously earned the same honor last year.
Olga ended her Panther career on a high note as she earned All-Summit League honors at the end-of-season conference meet last month in Indianapolis by swimming the anchor leg in the third place 200-Free Relay unit.
In addition, Livshits set three school marks at the league meet as she swam respective first and second legs as a member of EIU's 200-Medley and 400-Free Relay units that set new school best times.
She also improved her previous Top 10 EIU mark in the 200-Back to own a new school record time of 2:04.06, while also besting her previous 200-IM finish twice during the league meet to now sport the second best time of 2:10.21.
"I'm so very proud of Olga and the work she has done in the classroom, community, and in the pool," said EIU head coach Elliott McGill. Â "She will definitely be very much missed next year."
To be eligible for the Academic All-League team, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.30 (on a 4.0 scale), completed at least one full academic year at the current institution and participated in 50 percent of their team's competitions. The swimming and diving all-league teams are made up of the 10 student-athletes receiving the most votes with all ties standing.
