CHAMPAIGN-URBANA, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois men's and women's indoor track and field completed Illini Classic action on Saturday (Jan. 17) as both teams captured respective third place finishes.
The Panther men secured 78 total team points to out-pace Loyola (Chicago), Bradley, Saint Louis, Western Illinois, and Butler. The host Illini squad earned the team title off 266 points, followed by runner-up, and fellow Ohio Valley Conference foe Southeast Missouri, with a 124 point tally.
The EIU women, meanwhile, scored 85 points to just trail champ Illinois (145) and Northern Illinois (103), yet out-scored SEMO, Ball State, Loyola (Chicago), Western Illinois, Bradley, Butler, and Saint Louis.
Junior
Calvin Edwards led all EIU runners with a first place finish in the 400-Meter Dash with a time of 48.32. When converting the sprinters mark to an oversized/banked track, he now ranks among the Top 15 in the country.
A pair of Panthers also earned runner-up honors as senior
Jordan Wallace came in second in the 3000-Meter Run off a time of 10:07.08, which now ranks as the 7th fastest Panther mark.Â
Senior
Aviance King followed with a second place mark in the High Jump off his leap of two meters.
Many more Panthers also earned personal best times and marks in the all-day event.
Both Eastern units will now prepare for next weekend's home John Craft Invitational inside the Lantz Fieldhouse on Sat., Jan. 24.
