CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois women's tennis will open the 2015 slate at Indiana on Sunday (Jan. 24), while the Panther men will also continue early spring action at Ball State that same afternoon.  First serves for the EIU men and women are set for noon and 3 p.m., respectively, with the guys playing inside the YMCA Tennis Center and the ladies taking on the Hoosiers in the IU Tennis Center.

The Panther men enter the match at 0-1 on the year after having dropped their season-opener at Purdue on Monday by a 6-1 score.  The EIU women, meanwhile, finished 11-6 overall last season and an even 5-5 in league and return six letter winners from that squad.

"We are really excited to open up our season this weekend," said director of tennis and head women's coach John Blackburn.  "I think everyone has come back from break ready to play and excited about getting started, I think we have a good group this year with a lot of chemistry, we are excited about getting out and competing."

"We are also looking forward to getting back out there this week and play Ball State," said Eric Stark, associate director and skipper of the men's team.  "They are always well coached and are a solid team up and down the lineup.  We are looking forward to this test against another team that was a NCAA tournament team last year and to see what improvements we have made in doubles and on how we handle the big points in the match."

The Ball State guys own a 1-2 mark thus far having dropped consecutive contests to Wiscinson-Green Bay and Illinois on Friday, while the Hoosier ladies won their season-opener today over Miami (Ohio).

Both Panther units return to the court next Saturday (Jan. 31), with the men to face Nebraska on neutral terriroty in Des Monies, Iowa at 8 a.m., and the EIU ladies to host Dayton in the nearby Wabash Valley Tennis Center in Terre Haute at 2 p.m. (central time).
