HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR, Ill. -- Eastern Illinois men's tennis earned a shortened 5-0 victory over Chicago State on Saturday (Feb. 28), with the match played inside the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club.

The win helped the Panthers snap an eight-match early-season losing streak as EIU moves to 1-8 on the year.

"I thought we had a great day versus a battle-tested Chicago State squad," said men's head coach Eric Stark.  "I loved how we set the tempo from the first ball. We have been headed in the right direction and this was a great statement to make.

"I thought Dave and Trent fed off each other at #5 and #6 and played really smart tennis," he added.  "We will get right back to work and be ready for Wednesday's match and the upcoming start of conference."

After the Panthers earned the all-important doubles point, off relatively easy No. 3 and No. 1 duo wins, the men then picked up four consecutive straight set victories for the final team score.  Two additional singles bouts were unfinished.

Highlights included junior Robert Skolik and senior David Constantinescu both winning by identical 6-1 scores at the No. 1 and No. 5 spots in the lineup, while newcomer Trent Reiman nearly blanked his No. 6 opponent as he tallied winning scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

The EIU guys will now travel to Southern Illinois this coming Wednesday (March 4) for a previously rescheduled 1 p.m. contest inside the Sports Blast indoor facility down in Carbondale.
