Three Track Athletes Named USTFCCCA All-Academic

Panther track teams earn USTFCCCA Team Honors

NEW ORLEANS – Eastern Illinois men's and women's track & field teams in addition to three individuals were recently honored by the USTFCCCA for All-Academic Team and Academic Individual Honors.   The three individuals honored were Riley McInerney from men's track and Bryn Buckwalter and Haleigh Knapp from women's track.
 
The EIU men's track team posted a 3.09 team GPA for the year while the women's squad had a 3.31 team GPA.  A total of 360 NCAA Division I teams were honored for their academics by the USTFCCA (218 women's teams and 142 men's programs).  To be recognized a team must maintain a 3.00 or higher team GPA.  Within the Ohio Valley Conference a total of five men's team and eight women's teams earned USTFCCA All-Academic honors.
 
McInerney holds a 3.77 GPA in Kinesiology and Sports Studies.  The senior competed in the NCAA West Regional in the steeplechase.  Buckwalter holds a 3.25 in Recreation Administration.  The senior competed in the shot put at the NCAA West Regional.  Knapp holds a 3.61 GPA in Marketing.  The junior competed in the high jump at the NCAA West Regional. 
 
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
1.) For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org.
2.) For the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
