Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win Of The Season

Grant Reiman wins at No. 4 singles to lock up victory

HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis picked up its first win of the 2018 spring season as the Panthers knocked off Chicago State, 5-2, on Tuesday afternoon at the Homewood-Flossmoor Racquet Club.
 
EIU opened the match taking the doubles point as the Panthers won at No. 2 doubles with Logan Charbonneau and Jared Woodson winning 6-3 over Rohan Wattley and George Botha of CSU.  The Panthers took the No. 3 doubles match by default securing the doubles point and a 1-0 match lead.
 
In singles action Freddie O'Brien won his third straight match for EIU at No. 1 singles as he knocked off Felix Savard, 6-4, 6-3.  O'Brien is now 3-1 on the season with his only loss coming to a nationally ranked player in the season opener at Indiana.
 
Braden Davis picked up a point for EIU at No. 5 singles Cody Wurzelbacher, 6-1, 6-1 while Jared Woodson had an insurance point for the Panthers scoring a win at No. 6 singles by default.
 
The Panthers would win the match at No. 4 singles as Grant Reiman picked up a three-set victory over Christian Gonzalez.  Reiman won 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
 
EIU returns to action this weekend playing at Wright State and Dayton.  The Panthers improved to 1-3 on the season.  Chicago State falls to 1-3.
