O'Brien and Kuroki pick up wins in singles play

O'FALLON, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis battled on Friday afternoon against Saint Louis but came up just short as the Panthers lost 4-3 at the St. Clair Tennis Center.
 
Freddie O'Brien continued his solid play at No. 1 singles as he won his fifth straight match of the season. O'Brien saved three match points and picked up a win over David Ferragut, a two-time first team All-Atlantic 10 Conference performer.  O'Brien won 4-6, 7-6 (6), 1-0 (3) to improve to 5-1 on the season.   O'Brien also picked up a win at No. 1 doubles partnered with Trent Reiman.  They knocked off Justin Nogalski and John Nogalski, 6-4.   SLU would win at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to take the point.
 
EIU scored another point on the first win of the spring season by freshman Kaisei Kuroki.  Kuroki came back to win in three sets against Oscar Pachon playing at No. 3 singles with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 win.
 
Gage Kingsmith collected the final point with a default win at No. 6 singles. 
 
EIU falls to 1-6 on the season and will play at Valparaiso next Friday.   SLU improved to 1-3.
