Eastern Illinois men's and women's tennis will host Belmont and Tennessee State this weekend for Ohio Valley Conference action. The Panthers are currently battling weather conditions in Central Illinois and have both matches scheduled for on campus at the Darling Tennis Courts. Should any matches need to be moved due to weather, they will be played at the Danville Tennis Center. For the latest updates on match location, follow along on Twitter @EIU_Panthers
Should weather hold EIU will host Belmont on Friday and Tennessee State on Saturday on Darling Courts. The men will play at 10 a.m. both days followed by the women at 2 p.m. both days.
EIU MEN
The EIU men enter the weekend at 4-14 overall, 0-3 in the OVC. The Panthers lost at Eastern Kentucky last weekend 6-1 but did secure the doubles point as they won in all three doubles matches.
Jared Woodson and
Gage Kingsmith won at No. 1 doubles as they are now 4-3 in doubles play in the spring.
Freddie O'Brien and
Trent Reiman won at No. 2 doubles as they picked up their ninth doubles win overall this year and fourth of the spring campaign.
Grant Reiman and
Logan Charbonneau teamed up to win at No. 3 doubles. They are now 3-0 in doubles play this season.
In singles action O'Brien continues to be the leader in wins with an 8-8 record in singles play this spring at No. 1 singles.
Braden Davis has the second highest number of wins this spring with four victories.
Belmont enters the weekend at 8-10 overall, 1-0 in the OVC after a win over Austin Peay. Tennessee State is 9-6 overall and has had their earlier season win over Austin Peay voided by the OVC office, so the Tigers enter at 0-0 in the conference.
EIU WOMEN
The EIU women enter the weekend at 8-10 overall, 2-1 in the OVC. The Panthers lost at Eastern Kentucky last weekend after beating Jacksonville State and SIUE in the first two conference matches this season.
Grace Summers and
Stella Cliffe did improve to 3-0 in OVC doubles play during the match at EKU. The tandem is 9-6 overall this spring including a win over a nationally ranked doubles team from Illinois in the season opener.
Individually Summers has picked up seven wins this season as the senior has moved into third place on the EIU career singles wins list with 52. She needs two wins to move into a tie for second on the career list with Sandra Sasidharan. The career singles wins leader for EIU women's tennis is Samantha Wulfers with 55 from 1992-95.
Belmont enters the weekend at 5-11 overall, 1-3 in the OVC. The Bruins beat Southeast Missouri in their most recent match. Tennessee State is 11-5 overall but 0-3 in the OVC. The Tigers lost 4-3 to SEMO in their most recent conference contest.
