COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - Eastern Illinois softball wrapped up their first OVC doubleheader of the weekend Friday night at Tennessee Tech. The Golden Eagles took a 8-0 win in five innings in game one and a 5-3 win in game two.
Megan Burton and
Haley Mitchell both hit homers in the second game to make it the third time this season two players have hit a homer in the same game.
EIU falls to 10-25 overall and 1-5 in the OVC, while TTU improves to 14-14 overall and 4-2 in the OVC.
The Panthers will play a doubleheader at JSU Sunday starting at 1 pm.
Game 1
The Golden Eagles took a 8-0 win over the Panthers in game one of today's doubleheader.
Morgan LaMore was the only EIU player to reach base after being hit by a pitch in the fifth inning.
TTU put up five runs in the first inning highlighted by a grand slam from Hallie Davis. She finished the game with five RBI to lead the team. The Golden Eagles added another two runs in the third and one more in the fifth to take their third OVC win.
Jade Montgomery started on the mound and falls to 4-12.
McKenna Coffman and
Jenna Robbins split the final two innings. Alyssa Arden improves to 8-6. She threw a no-hitter with two strikeouts.
Game 2
The Panthers scored all three of their runs in the fourth inning to jump out to a 3-2 lead over the Golden Eagles, but TTU would respond with three runs of their own in the fifth to secure a sweep on the day.
TTU put up a run in the first and the third innings to lead 2-0. Burton hit a lead-off solo homer to center field to open the fourth inning and get an EIU run on the board.
Hannah Cravens reached first on a fielding error and would advance to third on a sac fly from
Mia Davis. Mitchell came up to bat to hit her fifth homer of the season and tally two RBI as the Panthers jumped out to a 3-2 lead.
Lewis hit a three-run homer for the Golden Eagles in the bottom of the fifth to give them a 5-3 edge and the win in game two.
LaMore added two hits in addition to Burton and Mitchell's home runs, while two players for TTU each finished with two runs.
Hannah Cravens pitched a complete game and falls to 0-2 on the mound.
