Freddie O'Brien was named the Ohio Valley Conference Male Tennis Player of the Week following his performances last week on the road.
O'Brien went 3-0 playing at the number one singles position as he helped EIU post a 2-1 record as a team. O'Brien opened the weekend with a 6-1, 6-3 win over defending OVC Male Tennis Player of the Year, Hendrik Inno of Belmont. O'Brien would add singles wins at Tennessee State and Martin Methodist as he improved to 15-7 at number one singles this spring.
In doubles play O'Brien posted a 1-1 record for the weekend with his doubles match at Belmont left unfinished after the Bruins won the doubles point. He would win with playing partner
Logan Charbonneau at Tennessee State and then lost in doubles at NAIA member Martin Methodist moving up to play at number one doubles.
This marks the second time this season that O'Brien has won the OVC Male Tennis Player of the Week award. EIU will play its final regular season match of the season this Friday hosting Austin Peay. The Panthers are currently 13-13 on the season.
