Swimming Heads Home For Match Against Ball State

Both teams coming off a win against Valparaiso

ON-TAP: Eastern Illinois will return to Padovan Pool on Friday to face-off against the Cardinals of Ball State from the MAC. EIU swimming is coming off an impressive win against the Crusaders of Valparaiso. Ball State is coached by J. Agnew, Chris Bals, Jacob Brehmer, and Geena Freriks. 

LAST MEETING: The Panthers faced Ball State once last season with both the men's and women's teams losing. The men's team lost by a score of 109-151, and the women's team lost 92-165. Last season, Eastern finished fourth in the Summit League while Ball State finished in fourth in their conference

MEN'S RECAP: EIU finished first in eight events last meet against Valparaiso. The men's team won the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 1:36.97. Forrest BaumgartnerCollin FelicianoAlex Adams, and Payton Buse took home first in that event. Freshman Conner Colston won his first event in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:43.93. Baumgartner would go on to win two more times including 100 yard backstroke with a time of 54.92, and in the 200 yard freestyle relay along side Buse, Colston and Jacob Nichols.

WOMEN'S RECAP: The women's squad won 11 events against the Crusaders last weekend.  The team of Olivia VieleAshley GlesingKaylan Ottosen, and Camryn Lewis took first place with a time of 1:50.54 in the 200 yard medley relay to start last meet. Ottosen also won three other events including the 50 yard freestyle, the 100 yard butterfly, and the 200 yard freestyle relay. First time winner Emma Ballantyne also won in their last meet as she placed first in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:24.28.

NEXT UP: Both teams will be traveling to Souther Illinois University to participate in the SIU A3 Performance Invite. This invite will take place between Thursday, Nov. 11 and Saturday, Nov. 13 in Carbondale, Ill.

HEAD COACH: Coach Donges comes to EIU after a successful one-year stop at Anderson University where he coached swimmers on the men's and women's teams to 22 school records last season. In 2019, Donges was head coach at the EXOS/Bryan Glazer Jewish Community Center in Tampa, Florida. He developed the swimming fitness program for the team and was in charge of recruiting for the club.  He coached for seven years with Yorktown Swim Club, beginning in 2012, taking over as head coach in 2015. During his time as head coach, Donges oversaw the direction of swimming for all athletes at the Yorktown Swim Club. He also took the lead in marketing and recruitment associated with Yorktown Swim Club. He graduated from Ball State University with both a bachelor's and master's degree.
