Men's Tennis Wraps Up First Fall Tournament

RIVER FOREST, Ill. – Eastern Illinois men's tennis wrapped up its first weekend of competition playing at the River Forest Collegiate Invitational that included players from eight area universities with teams playing in flighted draws in both singles and doubles play.
 
In singles action Christos Kyrillou and Pau Riera both picked up one win playing in their flights.  Kyrillou was in the No. 1 singles draw picking up his win in the seventh place match against Kris Ortega (Northern Illinois).  Kyrillou won 6-3, 1-0 (ret.).  Riera won his match in the seventh place contest over Nic Loudermilk (Xavier) winning in three sets  3-6, 6-5 (4), (5).  Riera played at No. 3 singles. 
 
Riera would also have some success in doubles play at the event as he was teamed with Tyler Carlin at No. 2 doubles.   After losing their opening round match to the doubles team from Xavier, Carlin and Riera won two straight matches to place fifth in the flight.  They would win 6-4 over the doubles team from UIC and then beat the doubles team from Youngstown State 6-1 in the fifth place match.
 
EIU's team in the No. 3 doubles draw was Max Pilipovic-Kljajic and Ruslan Pultz.  They would lose in the opening round to the doubles team from Northern Illinois before beating Youngstown State's No. 3 doubles team 6-2.  Pilipovic-Kljajic and Pultz would lose the fifth place match, 6-3, to the doubles team from Saint Louis.
 
EIU's next fall action will be the Panthers Hidden Dual on Oct. 1-2 at the Rex Darling Courts at EIU.
